Pay It Trailward with GVLT

We all know the warm feeling of a stranger picking up the tab for our morning coffee—the classic "Pay It Forward." But here in the Gallatin Valley, the Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) is taking that concept outside with a beautiful new initiative called Pay It Trailward. At Crazy Mountain Outdoors, we believe that the best gifts are the ones we share in nature. Instead of simply paying someone back for a good deed, this campaign is all about passing on the benefits of our local trail system so that the good keeps moving.

GVLT has an inspiring, ambitious vision for our community: in 30 years, every person in the Greater Bozeman area will live within a 10-minute walk of a safe, connected trail system. In a world where we spend more time than ever looking at screens, we are incredibly lucky to live in one of the most breathtaking places on the planet. Whether you’re running with a buddy at Highland Glen, showing out-of-town friends the views from Drinking Horse, or watching the dogs run on Peets Hill, these trails give us a reason to look up, get outside, and be truly present. We all benefit from these spaces—not just today, but for generations to come.

The best part about Pay It Trailward is that you don't need to make a grand gesture to participate. It starts with simply hitting the dirt on a trail you already love and sharing that experience. Bring someone new along for a hike, or challenge yourself to spend 30 screen-free minutes in nature twice this week. As you explore this fall, keep an eye out for the Pay It Trailward signs. When you see one, take a moment to realize you're standing on a path someone else made possible for you.
